Net book evaluation

-->
Net book evaluation
This year we had a great opportunity for expanding our learning by using net books. Net books were mini laptops which had a great impact on our learning. Luckily each student got their own individual net book. It gave all the students a lot of motivation in our writing. The net books gave all students access to the internet.
What was a really negative point was the fact that we couldn’t take ours home this year. In the future I would really like to take my net book home to help me with my homework.
We hardly got to use our exercise books and that was a relief. It also felt awkward not having to use our exercise books for writing and reading.
I really liked the net books because we could play educational games which helped us with our subjects.
I really didn’t like having the net book getting confiscated of me because I had to go back to refill which was really boring. It was confiscated of me because I was abusing the internet.
But with the net books it has finally made learning fun! Hopefully all schools all over New Zealand would be able to use net books like our school.
I’m really glad that I bought my net book because if I didn’t I would of knew that I would of been missing out on a lot of fun!

Moment of achieving excellence

My moment of achieving excellence

My moment of achieving excellence was in primary school when we had the intense speeches. Two weeks before the speeches we had to write our own speeches on any topic. I chose smoking because I thought that it was really important for kids like myself to know the harm smoking does to people and dangers of being a smoker in the future.

When I did my speech my class looked amazed at how harmful smoking is for the lungs. My teacher really wanted me to win so we had rehearsals in the I.C.T lab with my teacher. She spoke to me about how crucial eye contact was when making a speech, and to have some questions for the audience. My teacher was telling me to move around the stage and not stand on one place while delivering a speech. She also asked me to use gestures. Clarity was also important.

It was finally time to surprise the audience with my marvelous speech. I did my introduction and looked at the faces of the audience. They looked like they were ready to listen and learn some crucial information for the future. While I was doing my speech I asked a few questions about smoking and luckily the audience responded so it wasn’t as daunting and awkward as I expected so all was good and I came 2nd in the speeches.

I didn’t come 1st but 2nd and I achieved my own standard of excellence which I'm proud of!

Our fabulous Matariki celebration

Our fabulous Matariki celebration

What is Matariki?
Matariki is the traditional Maori new year. Matariki is based on the seven stars.  There was an old myth explaining that the stars were sisters and would only appear on the 21st on June which is Matariki.

It was Matariki on June 21st and Mrs Bailey organised our successful Matariki celebration. She organised many fun activities for the event. She had the stick games, Harakeke, Poi, string games and more! I proudly represented my class in the brain drain.

After practising our stage performance for perfection. It as time for the Matariki celebration to begin!

Once we settled in the hall Mr Horan came up and said a brief description about what Matariki is all about.

Once Mr Horan finished speaking it was time for the stage challenge.

Room 8 had to perform first. Molly and a few room 8 students sang a magnificent song about Matariki.

Next up was Room 12 to perform. Every one was eager to win that prize so we performed like there was no tomorrow! I could tell that every one was amazed by our performance.

Last but not least the least it was room 7 singing a very romantic love song that Prince Te tuhi wrote for his love. It just sounded beautiful .

After room7's performance all of the participants for the brain drain had to go to the library. Once we were all in the library I could already tell that every one was bringing the''A'' game to this challenge.

I was the leader for my group having the responsibility of answering all the questions. Many questions have gone past and it was getting really intense in the library. Room 7 was putting up a good fight but at the end we conquered the brain drain!

Going back into the hall seeing a cracked door just told me that there was a lot of drama happening when I was gone.

Sadly missing out on half of the activities we had, I could still see how intense the string games were. But Room 7 won the string games.

That was an awesome celebration seeing how much every one was enjoying the Matariki celebration that was a fantastic way to celebrate Matariki!

Hard materials

Reflection:Hard materials

Yesterday in hard materials I have finished my design for my project. My plan was to carve the piece of wood into a normal human and draw arrows on his forehead to tell people that he's the Avatar. With a wave in front of him, where when I turn the handle the waves would be moving back and forth and it would look like he's controlling it.

I had finally finished all the writing work and now I'm finally at the hands-on stage in hard materials.

The Ballntyne fire

The Ballantyne fire

The Ballantyne fire happened in 1947. It was known to be the most terrible fire in New Zealand history. The fire happened at the corner of Colombo street and Cashel street in the center of Christchurch. It was 3:31 pm when an employee found  smoke  rising from downstairs. Immediately the employee  spoke to another colleague inside the Ballantyne department.

There was no sound or sight of any flames except the salesman instructed the employee to alarm the owners and to phone the fire brigade. It was some minutes later that the fire brigade still hadn't turned up and the salesman was getting more worried by the minute , so instead of waiting for the fire brigade he assembled a team of staff members to place fire extinguishers at the bottom of the stairs. The owners of the department store , Kenneth and Roger Ballantyne had been warned about the fire but but they were unsure about the seriousness of the fire.

Another call to the fire brigade was made at 3:40 pm then 250 employees were evacuated from the building immediately. Moments later the fire brigade  finally showed up with no time to spare. Once the fire fighters saw what was happening they were in a rush to put out the fire. At 6:00 pm a few fire fighters and some police officers helped to find any dead bodies in the ruins. At 8:00 pm the fire finally died out.

The fire brigade  apologized to the remaining employees of the Ballantyne department because they thought it was just a ceiling fire but then they realised it was a real emergency when the employees started calling every 5 minutes. 41 people  died in the disastrous fire.

Cowboys and Indians

Cowboys and Indians

In the eighteenth century Cowboys and Indians were as wild as lions hunting for food. They were as fierce as beast killing another once they enter their territory! The Cowboys and Indians always had a lot of bad history in their past which made them enemies. But things were not good when when they met each other in a desert fighting for their territory.

“Hello Bob” shouted Akuma. “stop intruding” Bob said … BANG BANG! Akuma and Ryu heard a bomb and led the Indians to war! “Its on” yelled John. There was a lot of carnage, destruction, mayhem and chaos! Spears flying every where and stabbing men. There were also men on camels fighting. Ryu was one crazy killer stabbing like theres no tomorrow! The only survivors were Bob, John , Akuma and Ryu . They settled for a deal but Ryu betrayed the deal and killed the remaining Cowboys. The Indians are victorious !

So the world was a better place when the war ended. Later on the year Akuma died by a bullet from an anonymous Cowboy!

TO BE CONTINUED!
